Two Schools Honored by Department of Education

Two Diocese of Arlington schools received Blue Ribbon School of Excellence awards from the U.S. Department of Education. They were the only two non-public schools in the State of Virginia to receive the award. The schools are:

“We congratulate these schools – students, teachers, administrators, pastors and parents – on the occasion of receiving this award. To be recognized in the top 10 percent of the schools in the nation is an honor which can only be accomplished through the efforts of all. Our parents make many sacrifices to send their children to faith-based schools. This recognition gives them some evidence of the value of that choice. Bishop Paul S. Loverde joins me in congratulating these schools,” said Sr. Bernadette McManigal, Superintendent of Schools.

The awards are given on the basis of a comprehensive educational program and the results of standardized test scores which place them in the top ten percent of schools in the nation. In total, 18 of the 43 Arlington diocesan schools – over 40 percent – have been named Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence.
