Bishop Loverde Joins MIM Board

From the Office of Communications

We are pleased to announce today that Bishop Paul S. Loverde has been elected to the Board of Directors of Morality in Media (MIM). For almost 10 years, Bishop Loverde has been dedicated to sharing the truth of the hidden evils of pornography and its devastating effects on our families and culture. In his pastoral letter, Bought With a Price, he writes,

“The immorality of pornography comes, first of all, from the fact that it distorts the truth about human sexuality. “It perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other” (CCC 2354). Rather than being the expression of a married couple’s
intimate union of life and love, sex is reduced to a demeaning source of entertainment and even profit for others.”

Morality in Media has been working through constitutional means to curb traffic in obscenity and uphold standards of decency in media since 1962. Read below for the press release or visit the MIM website.

Washington, DC – The most Reverend Paul S. Loverde, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, Virginia has been elected to the Board of Directors of Morality in Media (MIM). Based in Washington, DC, MIM is the leading national organization opposing pornography and indecency through public education and the application of law. A New York City Jesuit priest, Rev. “It is a great honor to our Board, our staff, and our contributors to have Bishop Loverde, the leading Catholic cleric in America opposing pornography, join our Board of Directors,” said Patrick A. Trueman, MIM’s President and CEO. “We will all gain immeasurably from Bishop Loverde’s wisdom, his decades of experience in opposing the sexual exploitation of our culture, as well as his spiritual guidance,” Trueman added.

Trueman lauded Bishop Loverde pastoral letter on pornography, “Bought with a Price,” issued in 2006 and reissued this year with new tools and a study guide.   “This critical document has had widespread positive influence on Catholic thought throughout the country,” Trueman said.

Other leading Catholic figures on MIM’s Board of Directors include Robert George, PhD, McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University; Shirley Seyfried, National Regent of Catholic Daughters of the Americas; and Hadley Arkes, PhD, Edward Ney Professor of American Institutions at Amherst College.

MIM leads a coalition of more than 250 national, state, and local groups that work together to oppose pornography and all sexual exploitation. The organization’s main website is www.PornHarms.com.

Founded in 1962, Morality in Media, Inc. is the leading national non-profit organization dedicated to opposing pornography through education about its harms by highlighting the links to sex trafficking, violence against women, child abuse and obsessive use of porn.
