The Friday Five: The Truth Cannot Be Marginalized

This week we celebrate the 2015 Fortnight for Freedom. As we examine the domestic challenges to religious liberty, we are encouraged by our shepherd, Bishop Loverde, to “use this period of time for prayer, study, and advocacy,”  so that we are, “ equipped with the spiritual and practical resources needed to bear witness to the fullness of  faith in our culture.”

In his Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis says that the Christian witness must be joyful. It must be bold. It must have confidence in Christ’s triumph over evil.

“One of the more serious temptations which stifles boldness and zeal is a defeatism which turns us into querulous and disillusioned pessimists, “sourpusses”. Nobody can go off to battle unless he is fully convinced of victory beforehand. If we start without confidence, we have already lost half the battle and we bury our talents. While painfully aware of our own frailties, we have to march on without giving in, keeping in mind what the Lord said to Saint Paul: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor 12:9).

Our Arlington family can’t contain our joy which comes from faith in Christ.  Here, see for yourself.

This week over 800 of our teens traded a week of summer vacation for a week of prayer and service to some of our neediest neighbors.  The digital story can be found across social media platforms at #ArlingtonWC15.

Bishop Loverde and Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo released a joint statement on today’s Supreme Court Marriage Decision:

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution requires states to issue marriage licenses to two persons of the same sex, and requires a state to recognize as marriage the union of two people of the same sex when it was lawfully licensed and performed out-of-state.  We are deeply distressed by this decision which fails to uphold marriage as the union which unites one man and one woman.  This fundamental institution, grounded in natural law, predates any religion or nation.
