This week, we remember the great faith of the saints, recalling their example of virtue and desire to fully live the Gospel message.

This week, we commemorate the Feasts of multiple saints. God creates each of us, His unique sons and daughters. As Bishop Loverde said earlier this week: “All of us are adopted sons and daughters of God through the blood of Jesus Christ.”
Each saint we look to and pray through in their example of martyrdom, faith, prayer or contribution to the Church, each saint having his or her own defining qualities and virtues.
Let us ask the intercession of each of them in a — short, albeit particular — way.
1. Saint Bartholomew
O Glorious St. Bartholomew, Jesus called you a person without guile and you saw in this word a sign that he was the Son of God and King of Israel. Obtain for us the grace to be ever guileless and innocent as doves. At the same time, help us to have your gift of faith to see the Divine hand in the events of daily life. May we discern the signs of the times that lead to Jesus on earth and will eventually unite us to him forever in heaven. Amen.
2. Saint Monica
Exemplary Mother of the great Augustine, you perseveringly pursued your wayward son not with wild threats but with prayerful cries to heaven. Intercede for all mothers in our day so that they may learn to draw their children to God. Teach them how to remain close to their children, even the prodigal sons and daughters who have sadly gone astray. Amen.
3. Saint Augustine
O holy Saint Augustine, who has famously declared that “Our hearts were made for you, O Lord, and they are restless until they rest in you,” aid me in my own search for our Lord that through your intercession I may be granted the wisdom to determine the purpose God has planned for me. Pray that I be blessed with the courage to follow God’s will even at times when I do not understand. Ask our Lord to lead me to a life worthy of His love, that I may one day share the riches of His kingdom. Petition our Lord and Savior for me. Amen.
4. Saint John the Baptist
O glorious Saint John the Baptist, greatest prophet among those born of woman, O most zealous Apostle, O Martyr invincible, who, for the honor of God and the salvation of souls didst with firmness and constancy withstand the impiety of Herod even at the cost of thine own life, and didst rebuke him openly for his wicked and dissolute life; by thy prayers obtain for us a heart, brave and generous, in order that we may overcome all human respect and openly profess our faith in loyal obedience to the teachings of Jesus Christ, our divine Master.
